Interested in up-and-coming bands? Come check out local band Skybox with Athens, GA-based Modern Skirts at Schubas. Clip Art opens. This concert is part of the Amplify New Music series.

Doors at 9pm, show approximately 9:30pm. Meetup in the Schubas bar at 9pm. I will have a CIRF table top sign (green, blue and red stripes with Chicago Indie Rock Fans in white letters).

Skybox:
Hailing from Chicago, Skybox is currently working on their second album. Their first album Arco Iris, was released in 2006. They have opened for Man Man, Tilly and the Wall, and others. Listen here: Skybox MySpace. The song "Gravity Can't Bring Us Down" sounds like a love song a la Radiohead from the OK Computer era. Arco Iris is available for purchase on iTunes or Amazon.

Modern Skirts:
Formed in Athens, Georgia in 2004, Modern Skirts have toured with some heavy hitters. They've opened for the likes of REM, The National, Vampire Weekend, and a personal fave here at CIRF, the Rural Alberta Advantage. I find their music to be mellow with hints of synthesizers and distortion, and am interested in seeing them live. Take a listen for yourself: Modern Skirts MySpace.     Shoot! Thanks for catching that Lauren. I had it correct on my calendar, but not on the Meetup calendar! Hopefully this doesn't impact anyone's ability to come...

      “ Modern Skirts exhibited moments of brilliance and moments of derivativeness, but still were entertaining. Skybox a tad too boogie-woogie/early Genesis for my tastes. Liked what I heard of Clip Art. ”

      “ I was sad that no one showed up besides me, Craig and Kelly. Or at least I didn't see anyone else and I was in the bar with a sign until 9:30... As for the bands, Clip Art was great! I picked up their EP and found out that their MySpace is http://www.myspac.... No songs yet on the MySpace. I enjoyed Modern Skirts, did not like Skybox's new stuff. But I'd go see both bands again :) ”
