Singer-songwriter THAO NGUYEN pens delicate and catchy country and blues tinged indie rock tunes with her band THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN. Together THAO WITH THE GET DOWN STAY DOWN crafted last year's Kill Rock Stars debut We Brave Bee Stings and All that garnered them national praise from the likes of NPR and Pitchfork, who calls their last effort "galloping indie pop with sugar coated hooks, a frosting of horns, and a considerable dark streak." THE PORTLAND CELLO PROJECT is an utterly unique idea and we can safely say the first time an "indie cello orchestra" has played the Empty Bottle stage. An ensemble of varying size, from 8 to 16, the PORTLAND CELLO PROJECT has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the vibrant Portland music scene and is taking their orchestra on the road this fall. A Mel.opho.be live review describes what we can expect tonight, "from contemporary classical pieces to 80s hair covers to movie themes to answering many bands' question, 'what would happen if we added cello?', this evening had a bit of everything." Acoustic folk band DAVID SCHULTZ AND THE SKYLINE open tonight's eclectic and classy show.
