It’s Turkey holiday! So for those of you sticking around The Chi for the long weekend, CIRF invites you to join us in witnessing the return of local up-n-comers Company of Thieves in a special holiday show at LSA. This talented Chicago trio is currently on tour in support of their debut LP Ordinary Riches. A number of us from CIRF saw this band perform at the Wicker Park Fest this summer and they got a great reception. So come on out and join us on 11/28 to see what the hubbub is about!
CoT's sound is anchored by the airy, sweet sounding vocal pipes of Genevieve Schatz - whose delivery lay somewhere in the neighborhood of Edie Brickell and Nina Persson. Their multitude of musical influences fire off on their debut with jazzy lead track "Old Letters", to the poppy (but deliriously catchy) single "Oscar Wilde", to the soft tempos of the reflective "Even in the Dark". You can sample their sound on their MySpace Page.
Tonight's show also features a whopping 3 opening acts, with the highlight being North Carolina's Annuals. The Annuals' breezy, folk-pop sound was embodied in both their 2006 debut Be He Me and their competent follow-up, 2008's Such Fun. They are currently finishing up their 3rd LP scheduled for release next year, but my gut tells me we'll get a preview of some of those tunes this evening as well.
Local acts Big Science and Mike Maimone round out the night's lineup. Show begins at 6:30pm and the show is all ages. Tickets are $14 + fees and are available here.
“ What a show! One of the best I've seen this year. Gen Schatz has an unbelievable set of vocal pipes - can sing with the best of 'em. Rocking Horse turned out to be a pretty good venue for the meetup. ”
