WHAT: The First Days of Spring, a film by Noah and the Whale
Panic! featuring DJs Pogo and Arturo follow the film
WHEN: Saturday, September 26, 2009 @ 9:00 pm
WHERE: Darkroom
The First Days of Spring is the second album by indie-folkers Noah and the Whale released only a few weeks ago in the UK, and will be available in the US in early October.
Alongside the release of the album, the Londoners will be releasing a film with the same name. This cinematic counterpart compliments the music, with "polaroid-esque visuals." Click on their website below for a trailer of the film.
We are delighted and excited that we have the opportunity to attend a pre-screening of this film at the Darkroom on Saturday, September 26. The doors open at 9 pm (our meetup start time) and the film begins at 9:30. There is no cover at the Darkroom until after 11 pm.
When the film ends, the DJs Pogo and Arturo will be spinning a blend of "brit pop, new wave, and classic alternative." So feel free to stick around, have some drinks, do you best robo-boogie, and have a good time.
The album of The First Days of Spring itself has been met with very positive reviews, though are often critical of the sad and desolate exhaustion of its story. From what I gather, the album picks up towards the last few tracks. Think of it as finally getting back on your feet after a long and painful breakup. A quote from a review I read (gave the album 4.5 out of 5) "A mostly sarcastic suggestion for any women reading this (none): start a serious and immeasurably loving relationship with a musician and then break up with him when things can't get any better because people seem to write the best songs when heartbroken. Need evidence? Take a listen."

****I want to add that as of 9/17/2009, the Darkroom has not updated their website with the information about the film, though they do have an event listed for Panic!. Also, after 11pm, there is an $8 cover. So if you come for the film, you only have to worry about paying for drinks, but if you decide to join us after the film, then you'll have to pay the cover.
