CIRF is thrilled to host the triumphant Windy City return of one of the UK's hottest exports... The Big Pink. Tonight's show is the electro-rockers' first appearance since their show at the Empty Bottle last November. This is the second leg of their U.S. tour to promote their sensational debut LP, A Brief History of Love.
The Big Pink is comprised of London-based, multi-instrumentalists Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell. To me, their overall sound feels like a bridge between the 80's/90's shoegaze rockers My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus & the Mary Chain with the electro pop dance groups of the 00's like Crystal Castles and Hot Chip. The duo began their collaborations in 2007 with their first release the single "Too Young To Love". Subsequent singles releases later followed prior to their debut full-length last September.
Some of the album's many highlights include the slow burn, shoegaze opener, "Crystal Visions", the catchy, hook-laden pop track "Dominos", the testosterone-injected, thumping rhythms of "Too Young To Love", the bouncy, meandering "Tonight", and the engaging, anthemic cut "Velvet". But really the entire album is a collection of electro-rock gems that is sure to satisfy if given a fair listen.
Brooklyn-based and very special guest A Place To Bury Strangers opens the show. APTBS is currently touring to support their sophomore release Exploding Head, released last summer. Check em out!
Meetup Details: The pre-show meetup will be at The Gingerman Tavern (3740 N. Clark) at 8pm. I will try to snag one of the tables in the front. Look for the Blue CIRF tabletop sign. APTBS starts at 9pm so we can head next door sometime around then. Tickets can be purchased at the Metro Box Office for $16 or online for $16+fees (about $21 total) here.
Great great show by Big Pink. APTBS was a tad disappointing, but def worth going early to get into the after party w/free pizza & beer! Fun crowd - glad to see some new faces and old - hope to see many of you at future shows!
Had a great time. TBP seriously know how to put on a show.
Thanks Roland for organizing this. Can't wait for the next one.
Great Show, good people, and Roland traded an assault on our ears for free beer and pizza. Good job Roland.
Very excited about this meetup - hope to see many of you there!
