Get ready this Spring for what we believe will be one of the UK's biggest breakout acts in the U.S. for 2010 - Florence and the Machine. The group is coming Stateside for their first proper national tour to coincide with their appearance at the Coachella Festival in CA. My guess is that this will likely be a rare opportunity to experience them live here in Chicago so check em out!

Florence + the Machine are basically comprised of lead singer/songwriter Florence Welch and her backup band of rotating musicians "the Machine". She has described her own sound as, "a choir girl gone horribly, desperately wrong". Kidding aside, her sound in a nutshell is more or less soul-inspired indie pop. Her powerful, dynamic voice dominates many of the tracks on her debut LP Lungs, which I feel complements the dramatic musical arrangements in many of her songs. Even with all the UK media hype lathered upon them in 2009, I felt that this was one of last year's best albums.

Some of Lungs's many highlights include the handclap-driven, poppy opener, "Dog Days Are Over"; the sweeping "Howl"; the light and airy "Between Two Lungs", the amusing rocker "Kiss With A Fist", and of course the stunning, Alice in Wonderland-inspired track "Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)". NYC's Holy Hail will kick off tonight's show.

Ticket and Meetup Details: Kind of odd Flo & co's management would choose HOB as the venue for her Chicago debut, but since we've rarely hosted shows here it may be a nice change of pace. Tickets can be purchased at the HOB Box Office for $23 (highly recommended) or online through LiveNation (echh) for about $33 total here. The pre-show meetup will begin at 6pm at O'Callaghan's Pub (29 W. Hubbard St.) with the opening act Holy Hail scheduled to be on at 7pm.
