CIRF is please to host the return of Los Campesinos!
Formed in 2006 at Cardiff University in Wales, this seven member UK indie pop band first gained popularity on myspace and later released two critically acclaimed albums in 2008. Their latest - Romance is Boring - came out in February. They first played in the US in 2007 at Lollapalooza on one of the smaller stages, and returned last year as a headliner. Described as ‘unapologetically fun-loving, musically mischievous, and offbeat’, their performances are known to be energy fueled, and their music incorporates a variety of instruments including a glockenspiel, piccolo, violin, and harmonium. Older highlights include “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed” and “You’ll Need Those Fingers For Crossing”; check out some of their newer tracks here. The band cites their influences as Pavement, Sonic Youth, Menomena, Andrew Bird, Modest Mouse, and Yo La Tengo.
Cymbals Eat Guitars, an indie rock band from Staten Island, NY, opens.
Ticket and Meetup Details: We will be meeting at the Gingerman Tavern (3740 N. Clark St.) at 7 p.m. and heading over to the Metro at 7:30. Look for the CIRF tabletop sign. Tickets can be purchased at the Metro box office for $17 or online here for around $23. If you won’t be able to make the pre-meetup, send one of us an email and we can make arrangements to meet at the show.
We're meeting at the Gingerman Tavern at 7:00? Metro says the show starts at 7:00, shouldn't it be more like 6:00?
Good question. Although I really want to see Cymbals, I can't to the Gingerman before 7. I'm hoping that either (a), Metro sneaks in an extra opening band, or (b), they start late. I think either is a fair possibility. Either way, I will plan on heading over to the Metro at 7:30. If you are planning on going over right at 7, drop me a line and I'll try to arrange for us to find each other.
I actually would like to catch Cymbals Eat Guitars as well.
