White Rabbits/Here We Go Magic @ Metro

Start your work/school week off right this April 25th with the Windy City return of White Rabbits! Tonight's gig will be the band's first in The Chi since their last appearance opening up for The Walkmen at Lincoln Hall last November. They are back to continue touring behind their latest release, 2009's It's Frightening.

Although based in Brooklyn, White Rabbits' roots stem from the college town of Columbia, Missouri. Band founders Stephen Patterson and Greg Roberts met in 2004 while students at the University of Missouri. Along with Alex Even, Adam Russell, and Matt Clark, the quintet moved to Brooklyn in 2005, picked up 6th member Jamie Levinson, and began work on their debut LP Fort Nightly which was released in 2007 to generally positive reviews.

Their catchy, percussion-heavy sound caught the attention of Spoon's Britt Daniel who (at the request of the Rabbits) produced It's Frightening. Daniel's influence and high production sheen can immediately be heard on tracks like "Midnight and I" and "Lionesse". But the real highlights are the Rabbits' bread-and-butter percussion heavy tracks, "Rudie Fails" and the blistering opener, "Percussion Gun". They are also well known for their high energy shows so if you've never seen them before, you're in for a real treat!

We're also excited about one of tonight's openers, Brooklyn-based Here We Go Magic. Although technically a quintet, the group is highly influenced by Luke Temple, a former solo artist who released the fine LP Snowbeast in 2007. The group released its self-titled LP Here We Go Magic last year and is on tour to support it as well as preview new tracks from their forthcoming album coming later this year. They'll also be performing at this summer's Pitchfork Festival, so this may be your only chance to see them at an intimate venue before then.

Meetup and Ticket Details: The pre-show meetup will start around 8pm at The Gingerman Tavern (3740 N. Clark St). Local act Pet Lions were just announced as the offical opener and should go on around 9pm. I will be at one of the tables at the front of the bar with the Blue CIRF tabletop sign. Tickets can be purchased for $13 in advance at the Metro Box office or online for appx $17.58 total here.
