Mucca Pazza and Canasta at Lincoln Hall

No location was chosen

Two of our favorite Chicago bands are playing together at the very popular Lincoln Hall smile(yes, we do want to do meetups at other venues, and are open to suggestion)! We've tried to do a Canasta meetup a few times but the stars have never aligned properly, and the fact that they are opening for the "circus punk marching band" extravaganza known as Mucca Pazza makes this show a must!

We will meet in the bar at Lincoln Hall for this one-- look for the sign on the table, and don't RSVP for the Meetup unless you have tickets or plan on getting them, as you won't be able to get in the door otherwise!

If you're not familiar with either or both of the bands, please check out their links below and/or visit www.last.fm/user/WCIRF/library to find their music and hear tunes from all past and future meetups!

Here's what you'll hear if you come here:

On Canasta: "The tone is set for an album of open-air chamber pop that sounds like it wants to go haywire (and become a mess) but has been expertly subdued and shaped and is thus sublime... Pop rarely sounds this warm and natural when it's this intricately composed."-- Chicago Sun-Times

"Chicago's premier orchestral indie pop outfit, Canasta has finally unleashed their sophomore album. The lengthy break between this and their intriguing 2005 debut, We Were Set Up, allowed the band's already dynamic sound to blossom further."-- IGN

On Mucca Pazza from Wikipedia: Mucca Pazza is a 30 piece self-described "circus punk marching band" based in Chicago. Conceived by composer Mark Messing, the band, whose name comes from the Italian for "crazy cow," has been performing in and around the Chicago area for over four years. Their repertoire ranges from Balkan-brass to covers of 60's television show themes as well as themes from Shostakovich and Bartok. They have performed nationally at many well known venues and concerts including McCarren Park Pool, True/False Film Festival, Looptopia, Lollapalooza, Rothbury Music Festival, Tour de Fat, and were featured on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in 2006.

Mucca Pazza orchestration includes:
* Accordion, violin, mandolin, elec. guitar
* Clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax
* Trumpets/mellophone
* Trombones
* Sousaphone
* Percussion: marching snare drums, bass drum, concert tom, crash cymbals, glockenspiel, etc.
* Cheerleaders

Band geeks unite when Canasta opens for their local marching band heroes Mucca Pazza and make their Lincoln Hall debut.
