Screwball Press Field Trip

Windy City Inn (map)

Selected By: Kim

Steve Walters, who has been referred to as the godfather of the Chicago screen printing poster scene, has been gracious enough to invite us into his studio, Screwball Press, located at 4045 N. Rockwell in Chicago. He has worked with many other notable Chicago poster artists, including Jay Ryan, whose workshop CIRF visited in January. To see examples of Steve’s work, check out his website. Steve will be showing us around his workshop and explaining his approach to screen printing.

We will meet at the Windy City Inn at 11:45 a.m. and proceed to Screwball Press from there. We will be meeting with Steve at 1 p.m.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Due to space concerns, we must limit the YES RSVPs to 20 people. As a result, please RSVP Yes only if you truly, truly intend to go, as you will be denying another person the opportunity to be there. If your plans change, please promptly update your RSVPs. If the RSVPs have filled up before you had the chance to RSVP yes, you will be added to the waiting list.

This is an incredible meetup. If someone isn't going to make it, I'd be more than happy to fill in. I've been thinking of writing an article on the screen printing scene for quite some time.

This was a really fun meetup. Steve was really interesting and very generous. We each got to take home a poster that Steve printed for us yesterday and a cool book made from misprinted posters. It was also nice to see some new faces at the meetup. Thanks to everyone that came out.

Everything about this was awesome! Learned a lot about screen printing (I'd never seen the process in action) and am hoping to take Steve's class someday! I was really impressed with his approach and influence on the poster scene in Chicago. Such a laid-back, cool dude.

Awesome! Steve is such a nice dude, and even let everyone print and keep an awesome and timely pavement poster special CIRF edition :) I am definitely going to try my hand at making a gig poster, maybe we can start doing a few for some of our bigger meetups! Anyways Kim thank you so much for taking over with putting this together and Adam thanks for trekking it down three flights of stairs to let my late ass in:) Really cool meeting all of the others I hadn't met before and I really hope to see you guys soon at another meetup soon. So which famous poster artist will be our next vicitm Kim? :)
