** UPDATE 9/11: Sorry folks, due to a family emergency I am unable to host this show. Thanks for your interest and will catch you at the next show. **

Come experience a special evening of "strings & hip-hop things" with singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emily Wells! Ms. Wells is back on the road once more to tour behind her latest EP release Dirty and will also play a number of selected tracks off her most recent LP, The Symphonies: Dreams, Memories and Parties, released in 2008. Her amazing, unique sound is something that should no doubt be witnessed in an intimate live setting. So take a listen, and think about joining us on Sunday evening, September 12th!

The Indianapolis-raised, L.A. resident is a true independent musician in every sense of the word. Classically trained in violin since she was 4, Emily began self-releasing her own works since her early teens. Her sound has been described more or less as a cross between classical and hip-hop. Although her music seems to be primarily rooted in classical, elements of pop and hip-hop gives her sound a more approachable feel to a less than hard-core classical music listener. Take a quick listen to a cut off The Symphonies, "Symphony 3: The Story" for a sample. Another strong track off The Symphonies is "Symphony 2 & the Click Boom Boom". In addition to her extraordinary violin playing, Ms. Wells has a strong vocal range as well and often builds sonic loops during her performances (not pre-recorded), giving her show an orchestra-sounding feel, even though it's often just her and her drummer onstage.

I'll admit, it took me awhile to warm up to The Symphonies when I first got my hands on it. But once I let it marinate in my iPod for awhile, I began to appreciate the uniqueness, creativity, and attention to detail in her compositions. But don't take it from me - as always, be your own judge. Let me clarify this now however: this show will not be watching something like The Dead Weather. No power riffing here. But for those of you who are open to listening to something unique & different and (of course) good, then I look forward to seeing many of you at Schubas!

Local folk act Angel Olsen opens the show at 8pm.

Meetup & Ticket Details: Pre-show meetup is set to be at the Schubas front bar at 7:30pm. Look for me and the Blue CIRF tabletop sign. Tickets are only $12 + fees and can be purchased online here.

Howdy - it doesn't look like we'll have too many folks joining us this evening so for those of you 'Maybes' who decide to go last minute I should be there at 7:45p in the front bar. I won't have the sign with me, but it's a small place so I should be easy to find.
