Pre-Meetup TBD

. We'll be meeting somewhere before the show starts at 9 to assemble, chat, and get to know each other. Then we'll head over to Subterranean around 9:45 to catch Fang Island. Once I've determined a good place to have the pre-meetup, I'll update this post and send an email to all RSVPers.

Tickets are available via Ticketweb can be found HERE.

This show will probably sell out since it's Maps & Atlases record release show, and also a kick off of their national tour. I suggest you buy your tickets early if you're going to go. It's one of Chicago Oh My Rockness's picks, and I have yet to be disappointed by one of their suggestions, even for bands I didn't know!

Maps & Atlases

Chicago native rockers Maps & Atlases will be kicking off their national tour with their first full length LP release, perch patchwork, as well as their first release on their new label, Barsuk Records. A lot of anticipation has been brewing with the group. Their evolution to a more poppy sound from their, at times folky, math rock roots has been a welcome one and should bring a lot of energy to the show. Expect dynamic, technical rock with an artsy flowing tinge. They were listed in 2009 as the best new band in Illinois.

Fang Island

The driver behind this meetup (at least for me). Fang Island's first full-length album release in February of this year on Sargent House was met with great praise from a number of media outlets. The self-titled album truly shows what this band is all about. The members themselves say they "make music for people who like music." They go on to describe their sound as "everyone high-fiving everyone." In a literal sense, their music stands on the cusp of power-pop-punk-metal with references of 90's emo and classic rock sprinkled in and a hard-core jump on top. At least for their LP, they hold back the lyrics, embracing an almost entirely instrumental album, so don't expect to sing along much. But when they do sing, expect it to be almost anthemic. Fang Island will be rad.

A note on the meetup: As I said above, we will be meeting somewhere else before heading over to SubT which will be determined in the next few days. This will give us a chance to introduce ourselves to one another and have some time to chat before the loud music encompasses us all. I will not be holding the sign once we reach the venue. If you don't think you can make the "pre-meetup" but would still like to find us at the show, send me a PM and we'll arrange something.

A note on RSVPing: Please, if you RSVP 'yes' but don't think you are going to make it to the show or aren't going to actually meet up with the group, then please adjust your RSVP accordingly. The organizers appreciate it because we will know who to look out for and we can focus on other aspects of organizing instead of looking around all night for no-shows. Plus, we can enjoy the show more without worrying about people not being able to find us. Thanks!
