In the scenic, politically tumultuous country of Northern Ireland, if you were to drive east from Belfast down the A2 highway, you would eventually enter the large seaside town of Bangor. A suburb of Belfast, the town is one of the most popular tourist areas in the country. It is from this town where tonight's featured act is from, Two Door Cinema Club, and from where their debut LP Tourist History gets its name. Tonight's show will be the band's first live appearance in Chicago and it is with great anticipation that we at CIRF welcome them to the Chi to hear tracks off their highly listenable debut. So introduce yourself to TDCC and think about joining us on Wednesday evening, October 27th for a great night of music!

Two Door Cinema Club is a trio consisting of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Alex Trimble, lead guitarist Sam Halliday, and bassist Kevin Baird. The band is somewhat known for their quirky videos and has a tight, high energy, electro-punk pop sound, somewhere in the vicinity of the Arctic Monkeys, early-Editors and Phoenix (particularly the latter). Comparisons to Phoenix shouldn't be much of a surprise though, since Philippe Zdar mixed the album - the same French dude who mixed Phoenix’s latest LP, the killer Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Tourist History was named as one of the BBC's Sound of 2010 poll earlier this year and has gotten anywhere from moderate to excellent reviews. What is undeniable about this album however, is the incredible knack they have for catchy hooks in a number of their tracks. Combine that with their tight axework and Zdar's production sheen and you've got some real sonic gems like "Something Good Can Work", "Come Back Home", and the blistering, riff-heavy "I Can Talk". Other strong tracks include "Undercover Martyn" and "Cigarettes in the Theatre". It would be fair to say though that if you like Phoenix's latest, you're gonna like this one as well.

The band had originally planned to come to Schubas this past Spring for a sold out show but had to cancel due to the Iceland eruption so their appearance here is long overdue. Therefore if you are thinking about joining us this evening, don't wait too long to get tickets - as they continue to gain momentum this Fall, it will sell out. Don't miss out!

Opening acts for this evening are Cincinnati's Bad Veins and L.A.'s Funeral Party. Show starts at 8pm.

Meetup and Ticket Details: Pre-show meetup will be held at Lincoln Station (next door) starting at 7:45pm. I will be there at one of the tables with the Blue CIRF sign. We will probably hang there til no later than 9pm as we may check out a little of Bad Veins before getting a good spot to see TDCC. If you can’t make the meetup and just want to meet us at LH, shoot me an email and I can give you my cell to text you where we'll be standing. Tickets are $15 + online fees and can be purchased here.
