Announcing a new Meetup for Chicago Indie Rock Fans!

What: Field Trip to the Bird Machine

When: January 23, 2010 12:00 PM

Where: (A location has not been chosen yet.)

The Bird Machine is a screen print poster workshop owned and run by Jay Ryan. Jay has created posters for numerous artists including Andrew Bird, Sonic Youth, Monsters of Folk, the Jesus Lizard, the Sea and Cake, Low, Spoon, the Decemberists, and the Shins, to name a few. Jay has also created the posters for the Pitchfork Music Festival here in Chicago. To see some of his work, check out his website. Although Jay is preparing for a painting show, he is welcoming us into his studio. It sounds as though there will be less printing, and more painting, in process when we are there.

Jay’s workshop is located at 4823 Main Street in Skokie, Illinois. For you city folk who prefer not to drive, the CTA website indicates you can get there by taking the yellow line from Howard north to Skokie and walking for 10 minutes. However, I’ve never been there and the CTA website also indicates that there may not be sidewalks for all of the walk there.

We will meet at Jay’s workshop at noon but try not to be too early, as he will have another group of people there before us. We will likely be grabbing drinks and/or food somewhere after we leave the workshop.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Because this is not a retail space, the general public cannot stop by Jay’s studio and we must limit the YES RSVPs to 15 people. This is the first time we have ever needed to limit RSVPs. As a result, please RSVP Yes only if you truly, truly intend to go, as you will be denying another person the opportunity to be there. If your plans change, please promptly update your RSVPs. Nonetheless, we understand that we are in the middle of winter and the weather can change plans for us. Please check our website on the day of the meetup, just to make sure we haven’t cancelled for weather. If the meetup has not been cancelled but you feel it’s unsafe to leave the house that day, stay home. Aside from the weather, please RSVP accurately.
