When: Friday, March 12, 2010 11:00 PM
Where:
Lincoln Hall
2424 N Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60614
With our beloved
Chicago Blackhawks doing so bloody well this season (hopefully en route to our 1st Stanley Cup since '61!), we at CIRF felt it quite appropriate to host a show one of this year's up-n-coming bands,
Hockey. Hockey is a 4-piece originally formed at The University of Redlands by vocalist Ben Grubin and bassist Jeremy Reynolds. Their sound has often been described as new wave dance punk - a mix somewhere between LCD Soundsystem and The Strokes. Although they're not based out of Chicago (Portland) and probably couldn't give a puck about hockey the sport, I've personally found them to be highly listenable and fun to watch live. So we invite you to take a listen and think about joining us Friday evening March 12th to see what the buzz is about!
The group released their self-produced EP in early-'08 and their major label debut LP
Mind Chaos came out last September. Their debut single,
"Too Fake" soon followed as did successful and well-received Festival appearances at Glastonbury and Bonnaroo. After an appearance at Australia's Laneway Festival this Winter, the band will be back stateside for a full Spring tour.
Ticket and Meetup Details: This show got moved over from Schubas due to high demand so please think about grabbing your ticket sooner than later as my guess is that they will eventually sell out. Atlanta's
The Constellations open. Tickets are $12 + fees and
can be purchased online here. Also note: This is a really late show, 11pm START. Therefore the
Meetup will be held at Lincoln Station next door at 10pm. I'll be at a table with my trusty blue CIRF tabletop sign. Hope to see many of you there!
