What are you doing in the midst of the winter slump? That's right, you're gonna come out to the Empty Bottle on February 25th to see and listen to the synth fueled pop by Philly-based Cold Cave.

Tickets are available via Ticketweb and can be found here. It's only 10 bucks ($8 + $2 service fee) to buy in advance and $8 at the door, but I have a feeling this one is going to sell out, especially since it's one of ohmyrockness's recommended shows, and I'll tell you, I have yet to be disappointed by one of their picks.

We'll be meeting beforehand at Stella's Sports Bar, a great little divey gem only a few blocks from the EB. Not like that place is ever busy, but I'll have the big CIRF meetup sign with me. We'll probably head over to the venue around 10 or 10:30, and I'll be putting the sign away. If you think you want to go to the show but can't make the "pre-meetup," then send me an email and we'll arrange for a way to meet up with you at the Bottle.

About the Bands:

Cold Cave
Cold Cave is an "experimental electronic pop group" who make "melodic synthscapes with jackhammer beats," according to their label's website (Matador). I'm not sure what that means, but I will tell you when I picked up their re-release of their most recent LP, Love Comes Close, I was amazed at how catchy and diverse their songs were, while still maintaining that new-wavey, post-punk, synthy sound. Their first release on Matador, Cold Cave is comprised of hardcore punk and noise rock veterans Wesley Eisold, Caralee McElroy (of Xiu Xiu fame), and Dominick Fernow. Originally a solo project, Eisold incorporated the two latter members into his band for live performances as well as collaborating with them on various songs. Their sound draws from that transitional era when punk was losing itself to synthesized instruments. Think even more synthy late Joy Division/early New Order. Truthfully, I wasn't sure how long this electropop revival in the indie scene would last, but it looks as though it's here to stay, and Cold Cave could be the next heir.

Hair Police
Kentucky based psychedelic noise rock band Hair Police opens for Cold Cave. I'm looking forward to seeing these guys. A cacophony of guitars, drums, heavy electrics (synthesizer, oscillator, etc), the band stands ready for a full on assault of our senses. In a recent interview, the author says "They’ve been shattering sine waves and giving sound engineers something to scratch their chin about all over the globe since 2001. Hair Police’s live show is exhilarating and otherworldly. The band and crowd shout mantras between songs ... this is real rock and fucking roll."

Locrian
Locrian, a Chicago based noise-rock band, comprised of André Foisy and Terence Hannum, released it's first full-length studio album last year, Drenched Lands. The album is described as a "slow descent into a dark abyss, moving torturedly, gradually rediscovering the light, then leaving you where everything began - completely transformed." This will be a good way to set the mood for the rest of the evening.
