Hey all -
I'm a (former) emo chick. And trying to evolve out of the All American Rejects, mayday parade, Freshman 15...so on so forth. I really like this Brit band The Kooks, and, don't make fun - i still love Death Cab for Cutie. Hopefully I can post stuff like this here...but yea, if anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it =) thanks!! Christy |

Hey Christy,
If you like the Kooks, here's some bands you should consider from the Brit rock scene: Arctic Monkeys, Libertines, Maximo Park, Last Shadow Puppets and the Fratellis. If you like Death Cab, I'd recommend: Belle and Sebastian, Earlimart, Shins, Decemberists, and Sufjan Stevens. If you want to get the roots of some old school indie, try: Sebadoh, Pavement, Sunny Day Real Estate (emo before emo existed), Yo La Tengo, Blonde Redhead, and Built to Spill. Hope the search goes well. I know my search is never ending ! |

Hey guys,
Christy, I think Matt did a great job with his list. From his list, my personal favorites include Maximo Park, Last Shadow Puppets, B & S, Yo La Tengo and Pavement. |

The Extraordinaires: http://myspace.com/th...
I actually think a lot of the people in this meetup should check these guys out. I've been a fan for years. They write catchy songs that are actually stories, and the lyrics to these stories are illustrated in their albums, which are actually children's books that they bind and sell at their shows! Their shows often have theatrics in some form or another, usually something fun and ridiculous. Hi Five the Cactus is a personal favorite. I highly recommend them to any converted emo girl on here! ;) Edited by Dan Hagen on Oct 22, 2009 9:54 AM |

I want to say, Sunny Day Real Estate sucks the worst suck that ever sucked a suck. So many bad memories of trying to like that mush mouth's music.
But i kinda enjoyed the Extraordinaires stuff so thanks for that recommendation. |

The Wombats! We saw them at Empty Bottle a year or two ago-- awesome show, great songs. I've been trying to think of their name since Christine posted this thread a month and a half ago!

And a great place to find music from past and future meetup shows and music recommended based on our history would be: http://www.last.fm/us...
